Nissan Qashqai (2021) News

Despite Brexit, Nissan continues the adventure at Sunderland. The manufacturer has just invested more than 460 million euros in the historic Qashqai factory, whose production of the third generation will start in a few months.

At the time of renewal of the compact SUV, the king of the segment in Europe, there was a doubt about the maintenance of its production in the country. The doubt is now lifted after the inauguration of a new stamping line in the factory.

In addition, this uncertainty had not existed for a long time in the minds of Nissan executives: the construction of the site for this new 2,000-ton press actually began eighteen months ago and its implementation physical space dates back to July 2019. In addition, the Renault partner has agreed to invest more than 460 million euros in the assembly line of the new Qasqhai (it is part of an investment plan over 1.1 billion euros planned over five years for the development of the plant).

Scheduled for sale in early 2021, the new Qashqai will be inspired by the style of the IMQ concept presented at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show: its lines will therefore be more tense. On the engine side, it will skip diesel to focus on the electrification of its range. Thus, it will be able to receive hybrid versions (simple and rechargeable) which it will share with the future Renault Kadjar, planned for the current 2021. It will not however be 100% electric: this path will be occupied by the Ariya, which we had was able to discover the concept at the Tokyo 2019 show, and the series version will be presented during the spring.
