New Citroën e-C3 (2022)
Despite the success of the current Citroën C3, released in autumn 2016, its replacement could be anticipated to allow it to benefit from technologies released in 2020 by its cousins Peugeot and Opel, within of the PSA group. The eternal third of sales in France behind the Renault Clio and Peugeot 208, in the category of city cars, is unlikely to reverse the trend in the coming months.
Its tri-color enemies will benefit by the fall from a complete renewal of their ranges, which will definitely bring them into the modern era. On the one hand, the Clio 5 will go on to hybridization, when the new 208 can be equipped with a 100% electric variant. A technological leap forward which the current C3 will give up, due to the incompatibility with its aging platform. In 2020, the Citroën C3 will try to limit the erosion of its sales by taking advantage of a facelift. But the Chevrons are already looking further ahead and are planning to completely renew it by 2022, just six years after launch, while an automobile's lifecycle lasts an average of 7 or 8 years.
Clearly, PSA wants to electrify all of its divisions (Peugeot, DS, Opel and finally Citroën) as quickly as possible, in order to amortize this expensive technology. It is therefore on the basis of the Peugeot e-208 and Opel Corsa-e that the Citroën e-C3 will see the light of day, thanks to the e-CMP underbody. The Citroën e-C3 will offer a 50 kWh battery allowing around 330 km of autonomy, when its electric motor will deliver 100 kW, equivalent to around 136 hp, for 260 Nm of torque. Its performance will approach that of its cousins: 0 to 50 km / h in 3.1 s and 8.1 s to reach 100 km / h.
Compared to Peugeot and Opel, the Citroën e-C3 should have a more favorable price, due to its more popular positioning. More jovial, the design of its interior will not play the bidding in terms of choice of materials.
It will focus more on the comfort of the occupants. It is in the fall of 2022 that the Citroën e-C3 should be launched, at the same time as its thermal offer, itself possibly micro hybridized, under 48 V. Basically, the future Citroën C3 will approach € 14,000, while its 100% electric pendant will earn it a price around 35,000 €.
